Why Extra Curricular Activities may be more important than Academics - Part 1

Most people are preparing their kid for a life of average by allowing

them to jump from activity to activity in the non academic subjects.

Then they allow the kid to quit as soon as the activity becomes “boring” or

something else catches their fancy.

Most of life outside of work is extra curricular. Teaching kids how to quit

when the going gets tough spells DISASTER for personal relationships,

job advancement, social advancement etc.

The fact is:

=====

Academic subjects primarily deal with the intellect, but we all know book smart

people who are not successful in life

=====

There are many ways to define success...

Average is a horrible place to be today. In most cases average

leads to a place of financial, spiritual and intellectual bankruptcy.

In other words, the average person is often unsuccessful no matter

how you define it.

=====

Tip #1

Allow your kid to participate in two activities: One, that he really LIKES

AND commit the kid to an activity that YOU want to see excellence in.

=====

If your kid has an initial interest in the activity you want to see excellence in,

it is enough. Do NOT let him or her quit until YOU feel the kid has learned

what that activity has to teach.

My own life experience being the Father of three kids speaks to this truth.

Read the book “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell. He gives the actual

science behind what I am telling you.

Part 2 will answer the question: Why do kids quit and then blame you

for their lack of success later?

All the best.
